FM: Iran Ready to Cooperate with Turkey in Battle against Coronavirus

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced on Tuesday his country’s preparedness to help Turkey in fighting against the coronavirus epidemic.

Zarif in a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu expressed sympathy with the country’s government and nation over the outbreak of the coronavirus infection.

He underlined Iran’s preparedness for any assistance and cooperation with Turkey in the fight against coronavirus.

During the phone talk, the two officials also discussed Tehran and Ankara’s cooperation in the transportation and transit sector.

Turkey announced new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus on Monday evening as it continued efforts to curb its spread.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said 3,148 more people had been diagnosed with the virus, bringing the total number in Turkey to 30,217.

The death toll stood at 649 after 75 people died until Monday.

Turkish Defense Minister General Hulusi Akar in a phone conversation with Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri on Monday congratulated Iran’s successes in battling coronavirus.

During the phone conversation, Akar briefed Baqeri on the spread of the disease in Turkey as well as armed forces’ measures in the field and called for the exchange of successful experiences gained in the scientific, professional and executive fields between the armed forces of the two countries.

The coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting approximately all countries and territories around the world. The virus was first reported in the central Chinese city of Wuhan late last year. It has so far killed more than 74,700 people and infected over 1.35 million others globally.
