‘US repressing anti-imperialist tones’

An analyst says the US preaches democracy, but it dictates orders to Satellite providers to shut down any alternative voice that doesn’t fit the US imperial agenda.

In the background of this French broadcaster GlobeCast has pulled the plug on Iran’s Spanish language satellite channel Hispan TV after an order from Europe’s SES Astra satellite provider. GlobeCast received a letter on March 29th ordering it to cease transmission of Hispan TV in Latin America. The Hispan TV network is an associate of Press TV based in Iran. The letter says the decision was made in line with US sanctions on Iranian media. The US has an agenda to contain Iran’s growing influence in Latin America. For the past 2 years Western allied countries have declared a media war on Iranian broadcasts and news that provides a different perspective to the singular one-sided version that dominates Western countries.

Press TV has interviewed Kamel Wazne, political analyst Beirut about this issue. The following is an approximate transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Eutelsat’s Israeli-French CEO Michel De Rosen… they have actually requested GlobeCast to stop broadcasting Iranian channels. GlobeCast in turn answered him saying they refuse to do so because it doesn’t have a legal basis. And now we are seeing GlobeCast to do this.

What deduction do you make of what has happened, which ultimately has resulted in GlobeCast taking Hispan TV off the air.

Wazne: Well, this is dictatorship at best. Everybody wants to silence the other voice and this is the United States using its magic and power to stop free speech around the globe.

Anything the US sees does not fit within their agenda they deem not to have the right to be on the air.

I think they have a vendetta against Press TV because Press TV represents a different point of view and that’s what the United States is after, to silence that different point of view.

When you talk about democracy in the United States this is the worst scenario the United States can teach the world where they can go after satellite news broadcasts because they don’t fit their agenda.

This is a United States where they talk about freedom and democracy throughout the world. They impose their dictatorship on those satellites and carriers and actually threaten them with sanction if they don’t abide by their direction.

This is the United States at their best. Everything that is written in their Constitution; everything that is written in the first ten amendments here is actually putting a death nell to that Constitution and to that free amendment that allows free speech wherever it existed.

The United States actually just wants to hear itself and wants the world to hear it and anything other than that they want to block it and they want to shut it off and that is the case with Press TV.
