US to face further economic difficulties in 2013: Poll

End-Poverty-in-AmericaA recent poll shows that most Americans are pessimistic regarding the future, with many believing the US will face “economic difficulty” in 2013.

The USA Today/Gallup poll was conducted between December 14 to 17, 2012 by telephone, interviewing 1,025 randomly selected adults living in the US.

Only 33 percent believed that 2013 will amount to “economic prosperity” in comparison to the 65 percent believing they will face further economic difficulties, which is the highest reading since the early 1980s.

The remaining two percent had no opinion.

With the staggering national debt of USD 16.4 trillion meaning every American owes about USD 52,244 to the country’s creditors, the poll showed that half of the nation believes that the best years of America are behind them.

A large majority of those interviewed, 82 percent, say that taxes will increase during 2013.

The population is also pessimistic regarding crime rates for this year, with 68 percent saying the numbers will increase.

In the next two months, US lawmakers have two financial deadlines to act on. The first is raising the debt ceiling and the second renewing a government-funding bill to avoid the government from being shut down.
