Iran invites NAM Palestine Committee FMs to Gaza meeting

373146_Palestine-Gaza-ShejaiyaIran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has invited his counterparts from the member states of the Palestine Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to attend a meeting in Tehran on Israel’s brutal attacks on Gaza.

In separate messages to the foreign ministers on Monday, Zarif denounced the Israeli regime’s ongoing crimes against humanity in Gaza.

“The great depth of the disaster [in Gaza] requires the international community, particularly the Non-Aligned Movement, to show an appropriate reaction as soon as possible with the purpose of putting an immediate end to the killing of the Gazans, alleviating their suffering and promptly stopping aggression and occupation,” Zarif said.

At the current sensitive juncture, the NAM should once again play its effective role to settle international crises and to help the Palestinian people in Gaza in particular, he added.

Tehran is to host a one-day meeting of the NAM’s Palestine Committee next week chaired by the Iranian foreign minister to examine the latest situation in Gaza and find ways to resolve the crisis.

Over the past 10 days, emergency and intensive meetings have been convened in New York on how to apply political capacity of NAM member countries.

The developments come as Israeli warplanes and tanks have been pounding numerous sites inside the besieged Gaza Strip and killing innocent residents of the impoverished Palestinian enclave since July 8. Tel Aviv’s relentless blitz on Gazans goes on unabated despite international outcry.

Palestinian medics have told Press TV that nearly 1,050 Palestinians have been killed and more than 6,200 others injured in Israel’s aerial and ground assaults on Gaza over the past 21 days.
