Iran to bring aid proposals at UN confab

Iran will put forward proposals at the 4th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries to help them meet basic demands, Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says.

“A conference will be held in Turkey to discuss ways to provide aid by the international community to the least developed countries to help them reach the minimum level of development,” Salehi told Mehr News Agency on Sunday.

He said most of the least developed countries are located in Africa, adding that interactions with the least developed African states is of great significance to Iran.

The top Iranian diplomat said Iran would draw up proposals about ways to help the least developed countries meet food, health and educational needs.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to pay a visit to neighboring Turkey on Monday at the head of a high-ranking delegation to attend the 4th UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries.

The UN conference will run from May 9 to May 13.
