Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators in Washington DC call for ceasefire in Gaza- Video

Thousands of pro-Palestine protesters gathered on Saturday to march down the streets of the United States’ capital city of Washington DC, calling for an immediate ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The rally, at which demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and wore the traditional keffiyeh scarf, was the largest protest in Washington since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza.

The huge rally came after the Israeli regime intensified its brutal military assault against Palestinians in the blockaded territory.

“We’re asking for a ceasefire. We need to stop the suffering that’s happening in Gaza and all the children that been you know, they’re dying and being massacred and butchered and stuff like that. We just want to call them to have a ceasefire and stop this madness. That’s what I’m saying,” one protesters was quoted by Reuters as saying.

The American demonstrators waved Palestinian flags while chanting “Free Palestine,” and demanding justice for the civilians killed in airstrikes in Gaza.

Other slogans targeted the US President Joe Biden: “Biden, Biden you can’t hide, you signed off on genocide,” and “We say no, Genocide Joe.”

Protesters in Washington DC also asked Biden to call for a ceasefire and stop funding Israel’s military.

“He has to end sending arms that are going to be used to kill children that are in schools and in refugee camps and in hospitals. 3,800 children plus have been killed by US-funded Israeli missile strikes. How many more need to have? How many more people and children need to be killed?” another demonstrator said.

“He [Biden]’s just turning a blind eye on everything and he’s only listening to the opinions that he likes. But … he should listen as the president of the United States. He himself volunteered to listen to all of the people who live in the 50 states of America. And I think he should start listening to our opinion about ceasefire and free Palestine,” one protester said.

Israel has been bombing Gaza since October 7, when the Gaza-based Palestinian resistance movements launched Operation al-Aqsa Storm in the occupied territories in response to the Israeli regime’s intensified crimes against Palestinians.

The Israeli war on Gaza has so far killed at least 9,488 Palestinians, including nearly 3,900 children and 2,509 women. Over 24,160 Palestinians have also been wounded.
