Syria and Iran on Wednesday signed an agreement on mutual recognition in relation to registration of medicines and medical, pharmaceutical, dental and laboratory equipment.

The agreement provides for exchange of medical and medicinal products between the two countries through overcoming all obstacles to enable the products to easily and freely enter the Syrian and Iranian markets.

The agreement will contribute to securing the Syrian market’s needs of drugs necessary for the treatment of chronic and malignant diseases that are not locally manufactured.

The agreement was signed by Health Minister Osama Sammaq and Iranian Assistant Health Minister for Food and Medicine Affairs, Ahmad Shibani.

“The agreement forms a legal and legislative structure to stimulate Syrian businessmen and producers to develop and increase drug and medical equipment production,” Sammaq said in a statement.

He added that the agreement will contribute to establishing new industries in the medical field to be locally marketed and exported to the Iranian market.

The Syrian side also signed a number of agreements with several Iranian drug manufacturing companies with the aim to secure all the needs of the Health Ministry and hospitals and health centers, which were heavily affected by the attacks of the armed terrorist groups.
