The United States is preparing to mark the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, amid doubts about the official account of the events.

Official ceremonies are planned in three locations, where four reportedly hijacked commercial airliners slammed into the Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.

US President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush are expected to visit Ground Zero, the location of the World Trade Centers (WTC) in New York City, where a minute of silence will be observed at the exact time of the attacks on the towers, DPA reported on Sunday.

On the eve of the commemorations on Saturday, Obama said the United States was stronger 10 years on from the attacks.

“Today, America is stronger and al-Qaeda is on the path to defeat,” he noted.

However, a recent survey of American public opinion shows that two-thirds of all Americans believe the US has over-invested in both money and troops in fighting terrorism.

Americans surveyed believe that the prolonged fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan has weakened America’s economic strength and power abroad.

Many American individuals and organizations still question the official line on what exactly happened on this day ten years ago. Many of them believe that the attacks were either partly or fully an inside job.

A recently-released video indicates no evidence of a plane crash near the Pentagon.

Close-up photographs of the Pentagon show no wreckage of the plane, although normally remains of a plane wreck are sometimes scattered over up to a square mile.

Senior editor of Veterans Today Gordon Duff told Press TV’s US Desk in early September that leaked videos confirm eye-witnesses’ accounts that the attack was made by a cruise missile rather than a passenger plane.

“There were 85 videos; another video was released yesterday (August 29). Now it hasn’t been carefully vetted but it appears to be quite genuine that clearly shows a cruise missile from another angle hitting the Pentagon,” Duff said.
