White House meet this week to dicuss Syria no-fly zone, arms aid to rebels

Obama administration officials have confirmed planned White House meetings this week to discuss further aid to foreign-backed insurgents in Syria, including shipping lethal weapons and imposing a no-fly zone over the country.
The officials add that US Secretary of State John Kerry has postponed a planned trip to the Middle East this week in order to take part in the White House meetings on Syria in response to recent victories against the militant gangs by the Syrian Army, CNN reports on Monday.

“At the president’s direction, his national security team continues to consider all possible options that would accomplish our objectives of helping the Syrian opposition serve the essential needs of the Syrian people and hastening a political transition to a post-Assad Syria,” National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan is quoted as saying in the report.

The remarks once again point to persisting US desire to overthrow the government of President Bashar al-Assad, the only Arab leader in the region who has consistently sided with Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation. The Israeli regime is the key American ally in the region.

The development comes as the anti-Damascus militants have “warned the Obama administration” that without “immediate support,” they may suffer “crippling losses” amid the continuing advances made against the foreign-backed insurgents by the Syrian military, backed by Hezbollah forces from neighboring Lebanon, the report adds.

The American officials, however, emphasized that although no final decisions have been taken on their anti-Syria effort, President Barack Obama was “inching closer to signing off on arming moderate rebel units that had been vetted.”

They further added that the potential enforcement of a no-fly zone over Syria is also on the agenda of the White House meeting on Syria.

“We have prepared a wide range of options for the president’s consideration, and internal meetings to discuss the situation in Syria are routine,” Meehan insisted. “The United States will continue to look for ways to strengthen the capabilities of the Syrian opposition, though we have no new announcements at this time.”

This is while a top US general emphasized last week that imposing a no-fly zone over Syria would constitute an “act of war.”

The US-led backing of the mostly al-Qaeda-linked takfiri militants in Syria, continues despite many reports by international media and human rights group about major atrocities and war crimes being committed by the insurgents against Syrian civilians and pro-government forces.

Takfiris are radical Muslims that engage in violent attacks and killing of anyone, including other Muslims, that disagrees with their deviant interpretation of Islam.
