Pezeshkian: Iran committed to fostering peace in the region, as Iraq experiences stability following the defeat of Daesh
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has affirmed the Islamic Republic's commitment to promoting peace, stability, and security across the region. In a recent statement, he highlighted that Iraq is currently witnessing a phase of stability and growth following its successful defeat of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.

In a press conference following his meeting with Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani in Tehran, Pezeshkian addressed the media.
The President of Iran has emphasized the significance of the Iraqi Republic as an essential neighbor and strategic ally to the nation. He expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations, noting that they are at an optimal level. Furthermore, he highlighted that the scope of their joint cooperation continues to broaden across multiple sectors on a daily basis.
Sudani’s plane landed in Tehran on Wednesday, where he was formally received by Finance Minister Abdol-Nasser Hemmati.
Subsequently, he held a meeting with Pezeshkian at the Sa’ad Abad Historical and Cultural Complex in the capital.
Sudani stated that his visit was aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and communication between the two nations.
He praised the positive results of Pezeshkian’s visit to Iraq, which included talks on an array of economic, developmental, social, religious, and contractual issues.
The visit follows a previous trip by Pezeshkian to Iraq last year, where he toured the nation’s capital, Baghdad, as well as the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf, the southern city of Basra, and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region.
Iraqi official Sudani’s recent visit to Iran coincides with a period of unrest in Syria, Iraq’s adjacent nation, where the regime of former President Bashar al-Assad has collapsed, leading to the ascension of the militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
Sudani is currently on a visit to Iran as both nations continue their collaborative efforts to address the United States’ 2020 assassination of Iran’s former leading anti-terror figure, General Qassem Soleimani.
Iraq is actively combating terrorism attributed to groups allegedly supported by Western nations and Israel, while simultaneously pressing for the withdrawal of U.S. and coalition forces from its territory. This demand follows a resolution passed by the Iraqi parliament in the wake of General Qassem Soleimani’s assassination.
