Quran burning, modern barbarism

A senior Iranian lawmaker, Mostafa Kavakebian, has labeled the recent desecration of the Holy Quran in the US as “an act of modern barbarianism.”

Kavakebian, who is a member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, abhorred an American pastor’s violation of the sanctity of the Muslim holy book.

“I must stress that the actions of extremists such as this foolish American priest will not anger us and it will not prompt us to insult other religions. In Majlis, the representatives of religious minorities, in particular the Assyrians and Armenians, have strongly condemned the desecration of the Quran,” Fars news agency quoted him as saying.

Although Florida pastor Terry Jones called off his Quran burning plans in the face of strong international condemnation, anti-Islam protesters in the US burned copies of the holy book on the anniversary of the ninth 9/11 attacks on Saturday.

The police did not try to stop any of protesters who burnt Quran.
