Approximately 300,000 Palestinians make their way back to Gaza following ceasefire

The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip, endeavoring to recover after enduring 15 months of intense conflict with Israel, has reported that approximately 300,000 displaced Palestinians have returned to their homes in the coastal enclave.

On Monday, authorities reported that over 300,000 displaced Palestinians from the southern and central regions made their way back to the Gaza and northern governorates, traveling via al-Rashid and Salah al-Din streets.

The statement marks 470 days since the onset of the conflict initiated by the Israeli military, described as an act of genocide. This war, which commenced in October 2023 as a reaction to what was termed a legitimate resistance operation, has resulted in the deaths of at least 47,000 Palestinians and has led to widespread devastation across Palestinian territories.

The office emphasized the urgent need for 135,000 tents and caravans for both returnees and those already residing in Gaza, as areas have sustained over 90% destruction due to actions by the Israeli occupation forces.

A statement has been issued urging the international community, including global organizations, the United Nations, and Arab nations, to facilitate the opening of border crossings and ensure the delivery of crucial aid and supplies to support and protect the resilient Palestinian populace.

Despite the significant impact of the intense Israeli military campaign on residents of Gaza, Palestinians and their supporters have celebrated the ceasefire agreement as a triumph.

Proponents of the agreement emphasize that it emerged during a period of heightened desperation for the regime, spurred by the relentless and effective anti-Israeli campaigns conducted by resistance movements in the region.

They further claim that the agreement was reached even though the regime failed to achieve its wartime goals. These objectives included the dismantling of Gaza’s resistance groups, the return of captured Zionist individuals, and the forced displacement of Gaza’s entire population to Egypt.
