Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Makes Major Advances in Daraa Countryside

The army units made major advances in Daraa countryside, specially in Nawa and Tal Jamu areas.

Also in the past 24 hours, the Syrian air force destroyed the positions of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), an Al-Qaeda offshoot, in Hassaka province in the Northeastern parts of the country.

The air force pounded the ISIL’s positions in Al-Jabseh near Al-Shadadi city in Southern Hassaka.

Meantime, several commanders of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) resigned their posts due to a reduction in military aid from FSA’s international supporters.

A sum of 9 FSA commanders, in a statement, apologized their colleagues for their resignation.

Elsewhere, the Syrian army regained control of two strategic hills in Lattakia countryside in the Northwestern parts of the country and near the border with Turkey.
The army units seized back control over Hills 714 and 803 in Lattakia countryside enabling the army to advance towards Kassab and regain control of that city as well.

The army also can gain control over Naba Al-Mar region located opposite the two hills. The ground has now been prepared for the army to win back control over two other strategic hills, namely Hills 45 and 724.

Meantime, the Syrian army regained control over Hill 803 in Kassab near the borders with Turkey, inflicting heavy losses upon the militant groups.

The Syrian army also fiercely clashed with the militant groups in Kassab, controlling Height 714.

Elsewhere, battlefield sources said that the Syrian army killed an “Islamic Front” commander in Rankous which lies in Qalamoun in Damascus countryside.

The Syrian army repelled al-Nusra militants’ attempt to sneak into the safe areas in Rankous, killing and injuring dozens of them.

Meantime, a Syrian military source said that the army has thwarted a militant group’s infiltration attempt into secure areas in Salaheddin and al-A’zamiyah in Aleppo on Saturday, leaving a number of militants killed and wounded.

A military source said that militants tried to infiltrate into safe neighborhoods of Salaheddin and al-A’zamiyah but the army units have thwarted the attempt and killed and wounded many militants.

The army has also targeted militants in the towns and villages of al-Lairamoun, Anadan, Hreitan, al-Atareb, Handarat, Tal Rifaat and on Ritan-Maier axis in the suburbs of Aleppo and in the neighborhoods of Hanano, al-Haidariyah and Bani Zaid.

The army units also destroyed vehicles equipped with heavy machineguns and mortars.
