Zionist israeli regime prevents Palestinians from building houses

378015_Israeli-settlementIsrael is preventing Palestinians from building houses on their own land near the city of Yatta in the occupied West Bank, Press TV reports.

The Israeli authorities claim that the area has been confiscated by the Tel Aviv regime for military purposes and the confiscation is still in effect.

Israel is also preventing Palestinian farmers from entering their fields in the area to tend to their crops.

“This is my land. We have always owned this land but the Israelis are trying to empty it of all the indigenous people,” said Mosa Abu Aram, a Palestinian farmer from Yatta.

“I previously had a wall here but they demolished it,” he added.

The city of Yatta is located in al-Khalil (Hebron) in the southern part of the occupied West Bank.

Khaled Abu Hamid, the head of Yatta Council, labeled Israel’s plan for settlement expansion there as an attempt to create an open-air prison for Palestinians.

“We are now taking the case to court. We will continue to fight to remain on our land,” he said.

Less than a week ago, Israel announced its plan to seize 400 hectares of land from Palestinian families in Bethlehem.

The presence and continued expansion of Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine has created a major obstacle for the efforts to establish peace in the Middle East.

More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds (Jerusalem) in 1967.

The UN and most countries regard the Israeli settlements as illegal because the territories were captured by Israel in a war in 1967 and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbids construction on occupied lands.
