2 more US soldiers killed in Afghanistan blast

A bomber has detonated his explosives-laden vehicle at a US military base in southern Afghanistan, killing at least two soldiers and injuring several others.

The lethal incident happened in Shahjoy district of the southern province of Zabul on Thursday.

A US military spokesman in Kabul confirmed the incident, saying “two US service members were killed in the attack.”

The attack came less than an hour after Hamid Karzai was sworn in as Afghanistan’s president for a second term.

The latest fatalities bring the number of US troops killed in Afghanistan to 292 since January 2009. Over 470 NATO troops have died in the violence-wracked country this year.

This year has proved to be the deadliest one so far for the nearly 110,000 US-led NATO forces in Afghanistan.
