2nd session of Iran-P5+1 talks ends

The second session of comprehensive talks between Iran and the representatives of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany has just ended in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

The second session of the talks started on Friday at 10 p.m. local time (2000 GMT) at Istanbul’s Ciragan Palace.

Iran says the first session of negotiations was held in a positive atmosphere and both sides agreed to continue talks based on agreements reached at the December 6-7 Geneva talks.

EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who represents the P5+1, also said the talks will continue to try to find common points for further collaboration.

According to a statement issued by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council on Friday, the talks will continue on Saturday.

The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, who heads the Iranian delegation, also had separate meetings with Ashton and the Russian and Chinese delegations on the sidelines of the talks.

Earlier in the day, Jalili participated in Istanbul’s Friday prayers, which Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu also attended.
