Zionist Bahraini regime forces attack anti-regime demonstrators

Enemy of Islam Bahraini regime forces have once again attacked two separate demonstrations held to commemorate two protesters killed during anti-regime rallies in the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom.

On Saturday evening, scores of people took to the streets on the island of Sitra, situated about 12 kilometers (7 miles) southeast of the capital, Manama, as well as the village of al-Akr, located 32 kilometers (20 miles) south of the capital, to pay tribute to the two slain protesters and demand justice for them.

The participants carried portraits of the two Bahraini marchers killed at the hands of regime forces as well as Bahrain’s national flags, chanting slogans in condemnation of the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty.

Security guards then intervened and fired tear gas canisters to break up the protests and disperse the demonstrators.

In a separate development, Bahraini forces arrested political activist Ibrahim Sharif days after his speech at the funeral of an anti-regime protester.

Informed sources, requesting not to be named, said six military vehicles and eight civilian cars surrounded the house of the 58-year-old head of the National Democratic Action Society in the Umm al-Hassam neighborhood of Manama before forces moved in to detain him.

Sharif was later released after spending 48 hours in police custody.

During his speech at Hossam al-Haddad’s funeral ceremony in Bahrain’s third largest city of Muharraq, Sharif had accused the Al Khalifa regime of “being too authoritarian toward underprivileged people but very weak in the face of the haves.”

He had also said that the incumbent dynasty “has stolen a whole loaf of bread, is simply offering people very small bits of it, and expects the Bahraini nation to be grateful for such treatment.”

Since mid-February 2011, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held numerous demonstrations on the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa family to relinquish power.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on peaceful demonstrations.
