Officer-involved shooting in Oklahoma leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

A shooting incident in the US state of Oklahoma has left a man dead and a police officer wounded, police officials say.

Four officers responding to robbery at a house in southwest Oklahoma City on Friday found a man and a woman inside a vehicle in front of the house, Oklahoma City police Capt. Juan Balderrama said.

The man grabbed a gun when the officers were attempting to arrest him and started firing, although the cops warned him to drop his weapon, Balderrama noted.

Officers shot the man an unknown number of times killing him at the scene. An officer was also shot in the leg and rushed to a local hospital without life-threatening injuries.

So far, police have not released the names of the wounded officer or the man and the woman.

The woman was interrogated by officers Friday night, said Balderrama noting the slain man had several felony warrants.

Every year, more than 30,000 people are shot and killed in the United States.

The US averages 87 gun deaths each day as a function of gun violence, with an average of 183 injured, according to the University of Chicago Crime Lab and the Centers for Disease Control.

About 4.5 million firearms are sold annually in the United States at a cost of 2 to 3 billion dollars.
