The United Nations Office at Geneva has announced that at least 65 medical professionals have lost their lives due to Israeli actions in Lebanon since September 17. Ian Clarke, the Deputy Incident Manager for the World Health Organization (WHO), reported that there have been 16 attacks on healthcare facilities during this period, resulting in the deaths of 65 healthcare workers and injuries to 40 others.

In a briefing from Beirut, Clarke conveyed the World Health Organization’s profound alarm regarding the recent surge in violence and its detrimental effects on Lebanon’s healthcare infrastructure. He reported that since September 17, there have been 16 documented assaults on healthcare facilities, resulting in 65 fatalities and 40 injuries among medical personnel.

The recent hostilities have resulted in significant disruptions to healthcare services in southern Lebanon, as 96 primary healthcare centers and facilities have been compelled to shut down amid the ongoing Israeli military actions. The conflict has also forced the closure of five hospitals due to extensive infrastructure damage, while four additional hospitals have been forced to partially evacuate their patients.

The escalation of conflict by Israel into Lebanon has resulted in a death toll surpassing 2,000, with more than 10,000 individuals reported injured.
