Iran, Lebanon Discuss Latest Regional Developments

Iranian and Lebanese officials in a meeting in Beirut conferred on the latest developments in the region, specially in Syria and the Palestinian territories after the 8-day Israeli-imposed war on Gaza.

The meeting was held between Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri on Friday during which the two officials underlined the necessity for the expansion of mutual relations and continuation of support for the Islamic resistance in Lebanon and Palestine.

Ali Larijani, after meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Nabih berri here on Friday, by referring to the victory of resistance in Gaza, said that it was Lebanese people whose victory in the 33-day war in year 2006 opened resistance way against the Zionist regime.

Criticizing stances of a number of Islamic states concerning Palestine, Larijani stressed that political gestures do not solve Palestinian problems; the Palestinians want Islamic countries to really help them.

He continued that Iran is honored to support these movements in the region, because Iran considers them as resisting moves against expansionist nature of the Zionist regime.

Berri, for his part, appreciated Larijani’s visit to Lebanon and, by referring to Gaza resistance victory, said that we hope the victory turns into a turning point for support of regional countries for resistance.

He added that Iranian government and Mr. Larijani have always supported Lebanese government and people and we appreciate their stances to support Lebanon.

On November 14, Israel launched a deadly offensive on the blockaded Gaza Strip, which killed more than 1605 Palestinians and injured some 1,269 others.

In retaliation, Palestinian resistance fighters fired rockets and missiles into the Israeli cities.

On Wednesday, the Zionist regime of Israel and Hamas agreed on a ceasefire on Wednesday after eight days of intensive war over the Gaza Strip.

Under the deal, the Palestinians and Israelis agreed to end all hostilities against each other.
