Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani hailed the announcement of the “implementation day” of the July 2015 nuclear agreement between Tehran and world powers and expressed his optimism about the country’s economic prosperity in the new atmosphere after removal of sanctions.

“Today is an auspicious day…, the nuclear issue yielded results and the (anti-Iran) sanctions were lifted,” Larijani said in an open session of the parliament on Sunday, referring to the announcement of the “implementation day” of last year’s nuclear agreement between Tehran and  the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

He further expressed the hope that a new atmosphere would be created for the country’s economic growth and attraction of foreign investments following the termination of sanctions.

The parliament speaker also praised the Iranian nation’s resistance, saying that the last step taken with the removal of embargoes proved the significance of the resistance.

The remarks came after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini late on Saturday announced in a joint statement that the implementation of the nuclear deal finalized by Tehran and the world powers back in July 2015 has officially been started.

The joint statement read out by the two top diplomats announced the implementation of the nuclear deal – known as the JCPOA – which terminates all nuclear-related anti-Iran sanctions.

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano had said earlier in the day that Iran had taken the “necessary preparatory steps to start the implementation of” the JCPOA.
