Abdullahian: Iran Working for Stability in Syria through Comprehensive National Dialogue


Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Amir Abdullahian, stressed that foreign interference in Syria through the armed groups that has been going on for 20 months caused great human and material damage to Syria.

In a speech addressing heads of the foreign diplomatic missions in Iran on Wednesday, Abdullahian said the humanitarian responsibility demands that efforts are continued to bring the violence taking place in Syria to a halt.

He highlighted that Iran has been and still is part of the solution to the crises in the region and that its supports dialogue and the political solutions in a way that serves the interest of the peoples in the region and the stability of their countries.

The Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister referred in his speech to the Syrian national dialogue meeting due to be held in Tehran next week, making clear that his country is making its best efforts towards achieving stability in Syria through conducting a comprehensive national dialogue.

“Iran will host next week the first meeting of the Syrian national dialogue under the title ‘No to Violence and Yes to the Popular Sovereignty’,” said Abdullahian, pointing out that the meeting will include the participation of representatives of the parties and groups in Syria, in addition to the opposition parties and a number of the Syrian People’s Assembly members.

The Iranian official affirmed that Iran has played an active and constructive role in complicated crises witnessed in countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon, reiterating that Tehran has been calling since the beginning of the crisis in Syria for giving preference to the political and peaceful measures to get out of the crisis.
