West seeks to harm anti-Israel resistance front: Iran lawmaker

An Iranian lawmaker has condemned the Wednesday bomb explosion in the Syrian capital, Damascus, as part of the Western bids to harm “the triangle of resistance” against Israel.

“The US has brought together to Syria all terrorist groups and hooligans and has hired domestic mercenaries in a bid to harm the resistance front and continue its support for the Zionist regime (Israel),” said Ebrahim Aqa-Mohammadi, a member of Iran’s Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, on Wednesday.

He condemned the Damascus bombing and said such efforts, which are aimed at harming the resistance front, are, however, doomed to fail.

He also said that plots by the US, Israel and certain Arab countries will not succeed in bringing down the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The Iranian lawmaker slammed the presence of Western countries in the region and said foreign forces have brought nothing but destruction and further insecurity by arming and supporting terrorist groups.

On Wednesday, a bomb exploded in a central neighborhood of Damascus outside a hotel where the UN observers are staying.

The Syrian state television said five people were injured in the bomb attack.

Syria has been the scene of unrest since mid-March, 2011, and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the armed insurgents are foreign nationals.
