Salehi: Iran ready to host Syrian opposition groups for talks on resolving Syria crisis

Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Sunday that Tehran is ready to host Syrian opposition groups to help prepare grounds for talks with the Syrian government.

Speaking to reporters, he said Iran is ready to hold a meeting with Syrian opposition groups in Tehran to help resolve the issue through mutual talks with the Syrian government.

Referring to the visit of UN special envoy on Syrian affairs Kofi Annan, he said the issue is very sensitive and any wrong action might leave irrepairable impacts on the entire region.

Kofi Annan has adopted a just and unbiased approach towards the issue but certain countries in the region have unfortunately expressed concern, Salehi said.

Realities are emerging and prospect for resolving the Syrian crisis is very promising, he said.

Iran is ready to make necessary preparations for talks between Syrian opposition groups and government, underlined Salehi.

“We believe that the issue should be resolved without interference of outsiders,” he said.

“We hope the issue will be resolved through collective cooperation among Iran, UN and a number of regional countries,” Salehi said.
