Syrian General Views Unrests in Syria as “US-Zionist Plot”

Chief of Staff of the Syrian Army General Fahd Jassem al-Freij said that recent unrests in Syria were a US-Zionist plot, and expressed confidence that the country will overcome problems and defuse this plot with maximum power.

“What Syria is facing is a US-West-Zionist plot against the region and its people,” Freij said.

He added that the westerners cannot tolerate security and stability in Syria and try to undermine stability in the Syrian society thorough taking advantage of tensions in the region since unity in Syria is a major barrier to the aliens’ interference in the country’s affairs.

Meantime, the Syrian commander pointed to the reform program led by President Bashar al-Assad and stated that Syrian people reject aliens’ interference and agree with reforms in the country and support Damascus confrontation with armed terrorist groups.

Syria experienced unrest for several months with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, were killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blamed outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest was orchestrated from abroad.

But, calm was eventually restored in the Arab state after President Bashar al-Assad started a reform initiative in the country.
