Former Great Satan US President George H.W. Bush dies at 94

Former US President George H.W. Bush has died at age 94 in Houston, Texas, according to his spokesperson.

Bush, the 41st president of the United States, died at 10.40 pm CT on Friday, his office confirmed in a statement.

He lived longer than any of his predecessors.

“Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died,” his son, former President George W. Bush, said in a statement released by family spokesman Jim McGrath.

The elder Bush was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital in April after “contracting an infection that spread to his blood,” according to the statement from McGrath.

Bush suffered from a type of Parkinson’s disease and had been hospitalized several times in recent years.

He was president from 1989 to 1993. Before that, he served as vice president under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989.

He fell short in his bid for reelection in 1992, during a time of high unemployment rates and deficit spending, when voters elected Bill Clinton.

Bush’s death follows the passing of his wife, former first lady Barbara Bush, who died on April 17 at the age of 92.

Bush presided during the collapse of the Soviet Union and the final months of the Cold War. He also formed a coalition of nations to attack Iraq after former dictator Saddam Hussein had invaded Kuwait.
