‘If Trump withdraws from Iran deal, US and Israel will be totally isolated’

If Israel persuades the United States to withdraw from the Iran nuclear agreement, Washington and Tel Aviv will be totally isolated, according to E. Michael Jones, an American political analyst in Indiana.

Jones, a writer, former professor, media commentator and the current editor of the Culture Wars magazine, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the US and French presidents called for major changes to Iran’s nuclear deal, despite Tehran’s repeated assertions that the agreement is non-negotiable.

“I can say that we have had very frank discussions on that, just the two of us,” French President Emmanuel Macron told a joint press conference with his US counterpart Donald Trump in Washington on Tuesday. “We, therefore, wish from now on to work on a new deal with Iran.”

When asked to clarify if he meant a new accord or an add-on agreement, Macron said, “I am not saying that we move from one agreement to another.”

Macron noted that a new deal should incorporate three additional elements, including Iran’s ballistic missile program, the Islamic Republic’s regional influence and what happens after 2025 when Tehran will restart part of its nuclear program under the accord.

The French president described the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), only as the “first pillar” of a wider final agreement.

‘Macron’s preposterous position’

“This is a preposterous position. It is no position. The only reason that he is looking for a position is because Donald Trump has unilaterally decided to revoke what was a multi-lateral agreement. You can’t unilaterally revoke a multi-lateral agreement,” Jones told Press TV.

“Macron is there to try and save the position of France, which is now basically a vassal state of the United States, in organizations like NATO, the European Union, and other trade agreements. This is not going to work. It’s not going to work, because Macron’s position in reality is no position at all,” he stated.

“If he had a real position, he wouldn’t be going and trying to placate Donald Trump’s irrational decision in the first place,” he added.

“What is probably going to happen now is that both sides, Trump and the Iranians, will reject this compromise. And if Trump goes ahead he will bring about the breakup of NATO.  I don’t see another possibility here,” the analyst noted.

“Angela Merkel is expected to arrive in Washington on Friday. She’s already told Benjamin Netanyahu that if the United States and Israel go ahead with this revocation – if Israel persuades the United States to revoke the agreement – this will create a situation in which Germany, France, England, China and Russia would be on one side and the United States and Israel totally isolated on the other,” he observed.

“I think that’s the consequences that all trying to face up to and trying to avoid,” the commentator concluded.
