UN condemns Aleppo University attack

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has condemned Tuesday’s terrorist attack on Aleppo University in Syria, which claimed the lives of nearly 90 people and injured scores of others.

The UN chief said in a statement issued on Wednesday “Such heinous attacks are unacceptable and must stop immediately. All combating parties in Syria must abide by their obligations under international humanitarian law,”.
Ban added “Deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian targets constitutes a war crime.”
Syria’s state television said “terrorists launched two rockets” at the university complex.
Later in the day Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar Ja’afari condemned the attack as “a cowardly terrorist act” targeting “the students of Aleppo University.”
On Wednesday, universities remained closed across Syria to mark a day of mourning.
