Iran Evaluates Omani Proposal to Clear Hurdles in US Negotiations: Araghchi

Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced that the nation is evaluating several proposals presented by Omani mediators. These proposals aim to address and overcome the existing challenges impeding the progress of indirect discussions with the United States.

On Sunday, during an event in Tehran commemorating International Africa Day, the chief diplomat delivered remarks in the capital city.

The official refrained from providing any details on the possible strategies that Muscat had put forward.

The fifth series of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States wrapped up in Rome on May 23, 2025.

Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badral-Busaidi, serving as a mediator, announced that the talks resulted in “some but not conclusive progress.”

He, however, conveyed optimism that resolving any outstanding matters could result in a “lasting and respectable agreement.”

Araghchi has characterized the recent negotiations as “one of the most professional” rounds to date, underscoring a “better and clearer understanding” of the Islamic Republic’s positions by the American side.

The United States, alongside its regional ally Israel, has consistently called for a full cessation of Iran’s nuclear enrichment initiatives, which it claims are peaceful. Both nations have intermittently advocated for the comprehensive dismantling of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, though such proposals have been more frequently vocalized by Tel Aviv than Washington.

The Islamic Republic has consistently maintained its sovereign right to pursue peaceful enrichment activities for civilian purposes.

Last week, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, criticized the United States’ demand for Iran to entirely halt its peaceful uranium enrichment activities, labeling the expectation as “utterly wrong.”

Ayatollah Khamenei declared that asserting “we will not allow Iran to enrich uranium” is a significant error. He emphasized that no permissions are being sought as the Islamic Republic follows its own policies, methods, and agenda.

Tehran has firmly dismissed allegations regarding its nuclear program, categorically denying any intentions of diverting its efforts towards military objectives. The government emphasizes its commitment to neither pursue, construct, nor accumulate nuclear weapons, adhering strictly to moral and religious principles.
