Iran Foreign Ministry censures deadly bombing in Yemen

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has condemned Wednesday’s deadly bomb attack in Yemen that killed and injured dozens of people.

Mehmanparast denounced all acts of violence in the country and expressed hope that “peace and security would be restored in Yemen through further reinforcement of civil and public independent institutions.”

He said Iran has always stood by Yemen, reiterating that the Islamic Republic supports stability, security, unity and sovereignty of the country.

The Iranian official also hoped that the situation in Yemen would develop in such a way that the Yemeni people from different walks of life and political tendencies would have a say in determining the fate of their country.

At least 25 people were killed and dozens more were injured in a large bomb explosion targeting a police academy in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, on Wednesday.

According to Yemeni sources, the attacker threw himself into a crowd of cadets as they were leaving the academy and detonated the explosives he was carrying.

The explosion is the second deadliest since May when at least 100 Yemeni troops were killed and more than 300 others were injured after an attacker dressed in an army uniform blew himself up in the middle of an army battalion during a parade rehearsal in Sana’a.
