‘Libya premier survives attempt on life’

Reports say Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zaidan has survived an assassination attempt by a group of armed men in eastern Libya.

According to Press TV, Zaidan was attacked in the city of al-Bayda, located some 200 kilometers east of Benghazi, on Tuesday.
The primer was in al-Bayda for a meeting with the members of the city council.
Several cars in the convoy transporting Zaidan were seriously damaged in the attack.
On October 14, the 200-seat Libyan assembly elected Zaidan as the new prime minister after his predecessor, Mustafa Abushagur, was dismissed in a vote of no confidence.
Libya’s first peaceful transition of power in decades took place in an official ceremony in the capital, Tripoli, on August 8, when the assembly took over from the National Transitional Council almost a year after the revolution that toppled long-time dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
Libyans rose up against Gaddafi in February 2011.
