On Tuesday morning, Hezbollah – in coordination with the Syrian Arab Army’s 63rd Brigade of the prestigious 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – broke-through Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jabhat Al-Nusra’s (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) frontline positions at the Al-Zabadani Electrical Station, capturing 4 building blocks from the Islamist rebel forces.

Following their success near the Al-Zabadani Electrical Station, the Lebanese Resistance and Syrian Armed Forces conducted an assault at the Great Mosque of Al-Zabadani, killing over 15 enemy combatants from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Jabhat Al-Nusra, and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) before they were able to impose full-control over this mosque turned military base at this resort-city in the Rif Dimashq Governorate’s western countryside.

Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, the Free Syrian Army, and Jabhat Al-Nusra have made a habit of turning mosques in Al-Zabadani into military bases, as most of these religious buildings possess wells that can provide water resources to the entrenched fighters in the aforementioned Islamist factions.

Assisting the Syrian Armed Forces and Lebanese Resistance through the air, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) pounded away at the Islamist rebels in Al-Zabadani, targeting the latter’s movements in the Mahata, Al-Sultani, and Al-Jami’yat Districts before sundown dissipated the fighting around the city.

The Islamist rebel forces have repeatedly attempted to break the siege of Al-Zabadani; however, they were unsuccessful once again, as the Syrian Armed Forces obstructed their advance from Madaya.
