11 killed in US drone strike in Pakistan

At least eleven people have been killed in a fresh US drone attack in Pakistan’s North Waziristan region, officials say.

Officials and local sources told Press TV that a US drone plane fired three missiles on a house in the Shawal area near Miranshah on Tuesday, killing 11 people and injuring several others.

US drone planes are still flying over the area, a local resident said.

The death toll is expected to rise further as most of the people are trapped under the rubbles of the house.

The attacked house was completely destroyed in the attack.

The attack was the tenth such strike in 11 days in Pakistan, security officials say.

The US has recently stepped up its airstrikes in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal belt. Islamabad has condemned the strikes as violations of its sovereignty.

More than 700 people were killed in attacks targeting tribal areas in 2009. Over 90 percent of them were civilians.
