Palestinians Decry US Veto of Gaza Ceasefire Resolution as Pro-israel Bias
Palestinian factions have strongly criticized the United States for employing its veto power to block a United Nations Security Council draft resolution that demanded a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. They argue that this action further reveals Washington's complicity in the ongoing Israeli actions against Palestinians.

The document characterized the circumstances in Gaza as “catastrophic,” calling for “an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire” in the region, alongside the removal of all impediments to the inflow of humanitarian assistance into the blockaded area.
During a United Nations Security Council meeting on Wednesday, the draft resolution garnered 14 votes in favor, while the United States stood as the sole dissenting voice. This marks the fifth occasion on which the U.S. has vetoed a Security Council resolution aimed at halting the intense Israeli offensive in Gaza.
**US Veto on Ceasefire Reflects ‘Unwavering Bias’ Towards Israel**
The Palestinian group Hamas has stated that the United States’ veto is indicative of what it describes as the American administration’s “unwavering bias” in support of the Israeli government, labeling it “fascist.”
The statement criticized the United States’ perceived “arrogant stance,” alleging it demonstrates a disregard for international law and a total rejection of efforts to halt the violence in Gaza.
The statement asserted that the U.S. position effectively enables Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is sought by the International Criminal Court, to persist in a harsh conflict seen as genocidal against innocent civilians.
During the voting session, US Chargé d’affaires to the United Nations, Dorothy Shea, stated that the proposed draft resolution is considered “unacceptable” as it would “embolden” Hamas. She further emphasized that Washington would not endorse any initiative that does not demand the disarmament of the resistance group and their withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Hamas has stated that Shea’s comments reflect Washington’s strategy of spreading misinformation, and also highlight its disregard for the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to resist occupation.
The statement urged the international community to demand an immediate cessation of what was described as Israeli actions in Gaza, characterized as genocide, and to ensure that the officials of the occupying forces are held accountable for alleged war crimes.
Hamas has highlighted significant concerns over the United Nations Security Council’s inability to halt an ongoing conflict described as a war of genocide, now spanning twenty months, and the lack of intervention to break a persistent siege. These failures, the group noted, prompt serious doubts about the functionality of global institutional bodies and the efficacy of international laws and charters frequently breached by occupying forces with impunity and without tangible consequences.
The United States has been described as a “true partner” of Israel amid allegations of genocide in Gaza.
In a statement, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance group criticized the United States for its veto of the Gaza ceasefire resolution, asserting that this action unequivocally demonstrates US support for what they describe as Israeli crimes.
In a statement, it was declared that the United States acts as a genuine partner in the alleged genocide and war crimes carried out by the occupying forces in the Gaza Strip.
The recent veto of a proposed truce has unveiled what some are calling the United States’ antagonistic stance towards the Palestinian cause.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has expressed that the United States’ decision to use its veto power should come as no surprise, citing Washington’s role as a primary supplier of advanced weaponry to the Israeli military.
The veto has been highlighted as “further evidence of direct U.S. complicity” in what is described as an Israeli genocide in Gaza, as well as American antagonism towards the Palestinian cause.
Israel initiated its US-supported military offensive in Gaza on October 7, 2023, following a Hamas-led operation against the state, in response to what the group described as escalating aggression by the regime towards the Palestinian populace.
To date, the Tel Aviv administration has resulted in the deaths of at least 54,607 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, with 125,341 others sustaining injuries in the besieged region.
