Iran UN envoy denounces Zionist Puppet EU move to blacklist Hezbollah’s military wing
An Iranian envoy to the UN has criticized the European Union for placing the military wing of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah on the list of “terrorist” groups.
The EU has put “the symbol of resistance against aggression” on its terror list while the Israeli regime continues to commit crimes in the region and across the world with impunity, said Iran’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Gholam Hossein Dehqani at a UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday.
On Monday, the European Union’s 28 foreign ministers unanimously decided to put Hezbollah’s military wing on the union’s blacklist following hours of discussions. The move came after prolonged diplomatic pressure from Washington and Israel.
Pointing to Tel Aviv’s acts of terror against the people of Lebanon, Palestine and Iran’s nuclear scientists, Dehqani said “the Zionist regime seeks to accuse others of terrorism by playing a blame game.”
He said that the EU member states have turned a blind eye to the Israeli atrocities while leveling false accusations against the military wing of Hezbollah.
Dehqani described Hezbollah as “part of Lebanon’s social and political structure,” adding that such measures will have no bearing on Hezbollah’s popularity.
The EU’s measure will further complicate the situation in the Middle East region, said Dehqani, calling on the 28-member bloc to reconsider the decision.
Responding to earlier comments by an Israeli envoy to the UN about Iran’s June 14 presidential election, Dehqani said Israel had been infuriated by the massive voter turnout in the Iranian poll.
Tel Aviv has resorted to all means to distort the realities about the Iranian election as well as regional developments to secure itself some breathing room, Dehqani said.
The measures and stances adopted by the Israeli regime in recent weeks bear witness to its grave concern over the current situation, which will further intensify Israel’s domestic crisis and regional isolation, he said.
Dehqani further stressed the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear energy program and the Islamic Republic’s international commitments, reiterating Tehran’s support for a Middle East free from nuclear arms.
Unlike the Israeli regime, which is in violation of international regulations on weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), the Islamic Republic is a member of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as well as other WMD regulations, and remains committed to international obligations, he added.
The US, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly charged that Iran may intend to acquire nuclear-weapons capability in the future.
Tehran has categorically rejected the accusation, arguing that as a signatory to the NPT and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
