‘Iran will staunchly defend its sovereign territory’

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has said the Islamic Republic of Iran is very serious about defending and protecting its sovereign territory.

According to IRIB World Service, speaking on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast reacted to numerous violations of Iran’s airspace by US aircraft, particularly over Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. Mehmanparast said Iran has officially protested at US violations of Iranian airspace, by writing to the United Nations and the UN Security Council, and this shows Iran’s seriousness in defending and protecting its sovereign territory.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman said during the month of October, aircraft launched from US aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf, violated Iran’s airspace on 8 eight occasions. He added: “In our strongly-worded protest letters we demanded that the Americans respect international laws and norms, and in particular respect Iran’s territorial sovereignty , independence and territorial integrity”.
In further remarks, Mehmanparast said the current structure of the United Nations and the UN Security Council is unjust, and that neither the United Nations, nor the UN Security Council have the capability or the means to establish peace, security and stability in the world.
