Iranian Christians pay homage to Imam Hussein
TEHRAN, Jan. 3 (MNA) – The Iranian Christians and Zoroastrians all around the country mourn along with the Shiite Muslims on the anniversary of Imam Hussein martyrdom, since they revere him as Prophet Muhammad’s grandson.

Imam Hussein’s cult appeals to human instinct and enamors those without malice and obstinacy. This issue is true, regardless of people’s religion and their being Muslim or otherwise.

There is a large church in the Christian district of Tehran, Iranian capital, in Karim Khan St. Since I had heard things about the Christian’s observance of special rituals in Muharram and keeping in unison with Muslims in mourning for Imam Hussein (AS), I went to the church to find out about Christians who might give votive charity or observe special ceremonies for Muharram− the month of year in which Imam Hussein (AS) was martyred.

As I told Vartanian, the dean of the church, the reason for my visit to church, he tells me that Muharram and Ashoora are not specific to the Muslims, and that “Hussein (AS) belongs to all the liberal-minded and justice-seekers.”

“I revere the third Imam. In years without coincidence of the day of Ashora with a specific church day, the bells do not toll out of his respect. And we accompany the Shiite in mourning for Imam Hussein (As),” adds he.
