London borough accused of “social cleansing”

Campaign groups in the UK are urging one of London’s most diverse boroughs to scrap plans to fine the homeless up to a thousand pounds under the pretext of curbing anti-social behavior. A petition has been launched to stop Hackney Council in east London from criminalizing rough sleeping in a move campaigners are calling shameful and a form of social cleansing.
