Iran FM: Negotiations with the US unfeasible under the current Maximum Pressure strategy

The highest-ranking diplomat in Iran declared on Tuesday that negotiations with the United States would remain unattainable as long as Washington continues to apply its Maximum Pressure campaign on Tehran.

During a joint press conference held in Tehran on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran and Russia maintain ongoing consultations on matters of shared interest. This announcement was made alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, highlighting the two nations’ continued diplomatic engagements.

During the news conference, Araghchi announced that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting, initiated by Iran, is set to take place in the near future to address alleged atrocities carried out by the Zionist regime in Gaza.

The senior Iranian diplomat emphasized that Iran remains steadfast in its support for the Axis of Resistance across the region.

Iran has firmly stated that it will not engage in negotiations with the United States concerning nuclear matters while under coercion. The official emphasized that the continuation of Washington’s Maximum Pressure campaign against Iran makes direct dialogue unattainable.

He further emphasized plans to advance and align strategies regarding the Iranian nuclear matter, in collaboration with partners from Russia and China.

Iran’s Foreign Minister has articulated the nation’s aspiration for peace and stability within the Caucasus region. Furthermore, he affirmed the continuation of dialogue and collaboration with Russia concerning the situation in Afghanistan.

During a press briefing, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted the discussions preceding the conference, underscoring the inadmissibility of unilateral sanctions. He further stated that collaborative efforts are necessary to mitigate the repercussions of such sanctions on both nations involved.

The senior Russian diplomat stated that both Russia and Iran maintain the stance that international disputes must be settled in line with the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter.

He further stated that an agreement has been reached for coordination between the two nations within the frameworks of the United Nations, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

In a detailed discussion on the status of the Iranian nuclear agreement, officially referred to as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that diplomatic avenues remain viable and should be pursued to address the issue.
