US driving world closer to another world war: American geopolitical analyst

The United States is pushing the world toward another world war by militarizing Eastern Europe amid the worsening crisis in Ukraine, according to a geopolitical analyst and peace activist in New York.

“What the United States is doing in militarizing Eastern Europe, they are driving the world even closer to the brink of a world war, a global conflict,” Eric Draitser, the founder of stopImperialism.com, told Press TV in an interview on Wednesday.

Draitser made the remarks while commenting on a$5 billion deal under which the United States will sell Patriot surface-to-air missiles to Poland.

“This is a military move, this is an economic and financial move and it’s a geopolitical and strategic move, nothing less,” he said.
“What they are essentially doing is ratcheting up the tensions in Eastern Europe which is already so tense, because of the conflict in Ukraine,” he noted.

Draitser said, “The news that the United States is sending Patriot missiles to Poland is unfortunate, it’s quite tragic, but it of course is not surprising, because part of what the United States has been doing in recent years with graver intensities since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, has been to militarize Eastern Europe as much as possible as part of decades-long attempt to expand NATO to the doorstep of Russia.”

“That is precisely what it is doing by selling Patriot missiles to Poland,” he said.

The United States is “essentially forcing Poland even deeper – as if that’s possible – into the Western NATO military architecture to use it as an outpost against Russia,” Draitser said.
Russia says Washington is responsible for the escalating tensions in Ukraine by sending arms in support of the Ukrainian army.

Western governments, however, accuse Russia of destabilizing Ukraine by supporting pro-Russian forces in the eastern regions.

“Poland is only one example if you look at what the United States has done with regard to the Baltic states – Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia – of course, what’s happening in Poland, their continued attempt to militarily penetrate other former Eastern bloc countries show that the United States is not interested in peace, it’s not interested in coming to any sort of mutually beneficial understanding with Russia or with anyone else, but rather to keep continue to aggravate tensions, to continue to spread instability, because, as I said, war is good for business, when it comes to the United States,” Draitser noted.

Draitser said the US move will naturally “force the Russians to escalate their military capabilities in order to maintain parity with the United States and with its allies and proxies in Eastern Europe, and this only inflames tensions even further.”
The United States is “attempting to continue to drive a wedge between Russia and Europe,” he noted.

Ukraine’s mainly Russian-speaking regions of Donetsk and Lugansk in the east have witnessed deadly clashes between pro-Russian forces and the Ukrainian army since Kiev launched military operations to silence pro-Moscow protests in mid-April 2014.

Violence intensified later in May after the two flashpoint regions held local referendums in which their residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of independence from Ukraine and joining the Russian Federation.
