Israeli envoy arrives in Cairo for truce talks

An Israeli envoy has reportedly arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, for truce talks with the Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas.

According to Egyptian security officials, the Israeli envoy arrived in Cairo at 1100 GMT on Sunday and was escorted away by intelligence personnel, AFP reported.

The report also quoted Hamas officials as saying that intensive truce talks will be focused on ceasefire conditions.

This comes only a few hours after the Israeli regime’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Tel Aviv is prepared to “significantly expand” its deadly strikes on the Gaza Strip.

“The soldiers are ready for any activity that could take place,” Netanyahu added.

He also said that the Israeli military has targeted more than 1,000 places in the blockaded enclave.

At least 70 people, including six women and 15 children have been killed by Israeli airstrikes against the besieged Gaza Strip since Wednesday.

The Palestinian territory has been blockaded by the Tel Aviv regime since 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unrelenting poverty, and unprecedented levels of unemployment among about 1.7 million Gazans.
