9 killed, 33 injured in attacks in Iraq

Iraqi police say at least nine people have been killed and dozens injured in a series of attacks in and around the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

According to the Associated Press The first attack took place on Sunday morning when a bomb exploded near Zein al-Abideen mosque in the western suburbs of Baghdad; one person died and six others were injured.
Later in the day, unidentified gunmen attacked the house of a district mayor in Mahmoudiya town, 30 kilometers south of Baghdad, killing the mayor and his son.
At night, a bomb went off near an Internet cafe in western Baghdad, killing three people and wounding 13 others.
And minutes after this incident, mortar shells were fired on houses on the western edge of Baghdad, killing three people and injuring 14 others.
On Saturday, 14 armed militants were killed in clashes with Iraqi troops in the northern city of Mosul. The clashes erupted when Iraqi troops were conducting search operations in the area.
On Thursday, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said that April 2013 was Iraq’s deadliest month since June 2008, with a total of 712 people killed and 1,633 wounded in bomb attacks and other forms of violence.
