Nasrallah : ‘US pull-out from Iraq, historic defeat’

Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah has described the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq as a historic defeat for the US and a true victory for Iraqis.

In a televised interview, Nasrallah said on Monday that Iraqis owe this remarkable achievement to the resistance groups, adding that US troops would have stayed in the country if they had felt secure.

He also compared US pull-out from Iraq to the withdrawal of israeli troops from southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah Chief also talked about popular revolutions in the Arab world, saying that Washington which was the main supporter of former dictators in the region and was involved in efforts to derail the popular movement is now trying to pose as a partner for new governments.

He also expressed happiness for the end of fighting in Libya and the liberation of the country. He called on Libyans to forego reprisal and protect their country’s sovereignty and its natural resources.

Nasrallah, however, said there were no reports about the fate of Lebanese cleric Imam Moussa al-Sadr, who went missing in Libya three decades ago.

Speaking about Washington’s recent anti-Iran plot, Nasrallah said that the US has fabricated the issue of Tehran’s role in the planned assassination of Saudi ambassador to the US in order to put more pressure on Iran.

According to the Hezbollah leader, the accusation came after Tehran rejected Washington’s offer for direct negotiations and that this move aims to force Iran into direct negotiations, damaging Iran relations with Saudi Arabia and imposing more sanctions on Tehran.
