New US terror interrogation team in the making

The US administration is reportedly taking steps to form an expert interrogation team wherein the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) will not enjoy the ultimate say.

The White House has called on a Task Force on Interrogation and Transfer Policies to deliver up its proposals on the matter by Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.

The move has been projected as an effort to move away from the CIA’s infamy for prisoner abuse.

The new group is to allegedly avoid the agency’s ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ — a euphemism for the post-9/11 torture program — which the CIA began to subject alleged terror suspects to.

Officials from the Pentagon, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as well as the CIA are expected to partially form the makeup of the new team which would ‘research, master and conduct non-coercive interrogations of detainees’, the paper quoted unnamed officials as saying.
