Nigerian Mourners Pay Tribute to Gaza Children
In Bauchi State, Nigeria, Ashura mourners participated in the observance of World Infants Day, a day dedicated to commemorating Ali al-Asghar, the infant son of Imam Husain (as), who was martyred while in his father's arms.

An attendee of the event stated that the gathering was held to honor Ali al-Asghar, the youngest martyr and son of Iman Hussain (AS). Simultaneously, photographs depicting the dire situation in Gaza were shown to highlight the parallels between the historical massacre at Karbala and the current reported actions of the Israeli regime against the Palestinian population.
Suwaiba Yunus, a distinguished Islamic scholar, discussed the significant role of Sayyeda Zainab (SA), the daughter of Imam Ali (AS), during the events at Karbala, highlighting the tragic martyrdom of Al al-Asghar.
In a poignant ceremony, mothers with their newborns marked the martyrdom of Ali al-Asghar, while children displayed disturbing images depicting their peers in Gaza suffering and succumbing to starvation as a result of an Israeli blockade restricting access to essential supplies like food, water, and medicine.
Approximately 14 centuries ago, during the historic events of the Karbala massacre on the tenth day of Muharram, the family and companions of Imam Hussain (as) endured a severe lack of access to water, spanning three consecutive days. The scarcity became so dire that the mother of Ali al-Asghar was unable to breastfeed him, such was the intense deprivation they faced.
Imam Hussain (AS), bearing his six-month-old child in his arms and suffering from extreme thirst, made an emotional appeal to Yazid’s forces, pleading, “If you do not have mercy on me, at least have mercy on this child.” Despite his appeal for compassion, a member of the Umayyad troops, Harmala, fired an arrow at the infant, tragically ending the life of the youngest martyr of Karbala.
