OWS vows to remain on NYC streets

The anti-corruption protesters remain camped out in New York, urging an end to the long-run rule of corporatism over the country, Press TV reports.

The movement, also known as the 99 Percent Movement, is camped out in the streets of New York City to voice their opposition to the widespread corruption and economic inequality which overshadows the US.

The movement originally started as Occupy Wall Street (OWS) protests on September 17, but soon spread to dozens of cities in the country, despite heavy police crackdown.

Nearly 2,000 demonstrators have been arrested across the US simply for participating in peaceful protests against top-level corruption.

The protesters, who say they represent 99 percent of the middle-class Americans, have vowed to remain in the streets until their demands are addressed.

OWS protesters argue that their lives are being negatively affected by the one percent top-level corrupts, who have accumulated 40 percent of the national wealth through corporatism.

Protesters say the US will not experience real change unless the current two-party system ends and is replaced by a multi-party ruling system.

The move encouraged more ‘Occupy’ protests in dozens of US cities and resulted in similar anti-capitalism campaigns in other parts of the world.

Pro-Israeli media have, however, attempted to downplay the unrest and portray the OWS movement as limited rallies organized by a communist minority.
