Pezeshkian: Iran favors a region free of weapons of mass destruction

Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that Iran is committed to enhancing security and stability in the West Asia region. He emphasized the importance of a nuclear-weapons-free zone, stressing that this initiative should extend to include the Israeli regime.

In a phone conversation on Wednesday, he conveyed these remarks to Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s willingness to engage in collaboration with regional nations and other key stakeholders to enhance security and stability across the region.

He stated that Iran advocates for the creation of a zone devoid of nuclear and weapons of mass destruction, on the condition that it encompasses the inclusion of the Zionist regime.

The regime’s history offers little basis for trust.

The Iranian president expressed appreciation for the initiatives undertaken by Sisi and other leaders from Muslim and neighboring nations to advance peace and stability in the region.

Following a 12-day conflict with the Islamic Republic, the Israeli government announced a unilateral ceasefire. This development was followed by a phone call the next day.

A ceasefire has been declared following missile strikes by Iranian armed forces targeting a US military installation in Qatar, an action taken in retaliation to perceived American hostility towards Iran’s nuclear energy sites. In addressing the situation, President Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s willingness to collaborate on enhancing security and promoting peace and stability in the region.

The United States’ involvement in the conflict aimed to offer support to the besieged Israeli government.

In retaliation for the United States’ direct participation in military actions by the Zionist regime against Iran, Tehran found it necessary to launch a military strike on a base located within Qatar, a neighboring and allied nation, as stated by Pezeshkian in conversation with Sisi.

He referenced his phone conversation on Tuesday with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during which he assured Doha that Tehran’s retaliatory airstrikes were aimed exclusively at the US airbase.

In a statement, the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed its view that all nations within the region are regarded as brothers and friends. The country emphasized that regional development, progress, and stability can be realized through constructive interaction and amicable cooperation among all nations.

Pezeshkian accused the Israeli government of attempting to create divisions among Muslim countries.

In the early hours of June 13, Israeli forces executed a comprehensive assault on Iranian territory, targeting multiple military and nuclear installations. The operation resulted in the deaths of numerous senior military officials, nuclear scientists, and several civilians.

The Iranian military retaliated by launching an assault on the regime’s military and industrial facilities, deploying advanced-generation missiles that successfully struck their intended targets. Tadhg Hickey commented that both the United States and Israel have blatantly disregarded principles of fairness, emphasizing that Tel Aviv has contributed to the devastation in the region.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi expressed his support for the recently established ceasefire and conveyed his hopes for its sustained duration.

He conveyed to Pezeshkian that the region was grappling with widespread unrest and expressed appreciation for Tehran’s goodwill and its efforts in alleviating tensions.

Highlighting the concerted efforts by his nation and neighboring countries to secure a ceasefire, Sisi underscored his advocacy for diplomatic measures to address the challenges confronting the region.

The Egyptian leader has conveyed his nation’s willingness to facilitate indirect discussions between Tehran and Washington, which were disrupted due to the US-supported Israeli military actions.

He expressed satisfaction with Tehran’s willingness to sustain negotiation efforts and affirmed readiness to facilitate constructive dialogues between Iran and the United States, aiming to bridge the gap between the two nations’ perspectives.

In the context of ongoing initiatives to dismantle barriers to diplomatic relations between Tehran and Cairo, both Pezeshkian and Sisi conveyed optimism about the swift re-establishment of formal diplomatic ties between their respective nations.
