Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad says the foreign-sponsored Takfiri terrorists will gain no more grounds in Aleppo and the flash point will become a graveyard for them.

Assad made the remarks in an address to the parliament in Damascus on Tuesday.

Russia has vowed to provide Syrian government troops with the “the most active” air support around Aleppo following the death of scores of people during fierce clashes with terrorists over the weekend.

The northwestern city has been one of the strongholds of the terrorists over the past few years.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy it blames on some regional and Western governments. According to a February report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people in total since March 2011.

President Assad said the Turkish government has been facilitating the infiltration of the militants into Syria through the northern border.

Elsewhere in his remarks, President Assad said the unity of the Syrian nation is not bound to geographical borders. The acts of terror carried out by the militants will not affect the unity of Syrians, he added.

Assad also commented on the constitution, saying the parliament will discuss a new constitution in the future.

Any political solution to the conflict in Syria, Assad stated, must ultimately lead to the annihilation of terrorism, otherwise no resolution will work.

Syrian forces will step by step liberate all the territory that has been under the control of the terrorists over the past years, the Syrian president said.
