Qalibaf vows to restore economic stability in Iran

Iran’s Principlist presidential candidate Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says if elected president he will restore “tranquility and stability” in various fields, particularly in the economic sector, within two years.

Addressing people in the southern port city of Bushehr on Thursday, the mayor of Tehran added that Iran has great natural resources and skilled manpower, but is gripped by economic and social challenges.

He emphasized that the high inflation rate and runaway prices should be harnessed as soon as possible, saying he has devised plans to achieve that goal in all provinces.

The presidential candidate noted that Iran needs new management, adding that the people should have a role in the country’s decision-making processes.

While praising sincere efforts by previous administrations to resolve the economic and cultural problems, the presidential candidate said they had not taken enough measures in that regard, adding that the unemployment rate in the country is now higher than 30 percent.

On May 19, Iran’s Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar announced that over 66,000 polling stations would be set up across the nation plus 285 overseas for the 11th presidential election scheduled for June 24.

Earlier this week, Iran’s Interior Ministry issued the list of eight candidates approved by the Guardian Council to run in the country’s presidential poll.

The Guardian Council, a 12-member body, is tasked with vetting hopefuls for candidacy and confirming election results.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.
