Roadside bomb kills US-led soldier in Afghanistan
One US-led soldier has been killed in a roadside bomb explosion in war-torn Afghanistan, Press TV reports.
The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said that the foreign soldier was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) on Wednesday.
It did not reveal the nationality of the trooper or the exact location of the incident.
Meanwhile, a British soldier serving in the Lashkar Gah district of Helmand province also died at a UK hospital on Wednesday as a result of injuries he had received two days earlier in an IED blast in Afghanistan.
According to the website icasualties.org, a total of 3,256 US-led troops have lost their lives in Afghanistan since 2001, when the United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror.
The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across the country, despite the presence of about 100,000 US-led troops.
Hundreds of foreign soldiers were killed in the war-torn country in 2012 alone.
The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
